Transmissions
Volvo transmission repair in Seattle.
Transmission repair or replacement for all years and models of Volvo, manual or automatic. It starts with a proper diagnosis.
XC70, ready for the roadTransmission work takes more time and expertise than most other repairs, and the most important step is the first one: finding out what's really wrong. We've been repairing and servicing Volvos since 1982, and we take that step seriously.
If you feel sticking, slipping or anything that isn't right, bring the car in soon. Transmission problems get more expensive the longer they're driven on.
What we do
- Diagnosis firstWe examine and drive the car before we say what it needs.
- Automatic transmissionsShifting problems, slipping and leaks.
- Manual transmissionsClutches, linkages and gearbox repair.
- Transmission serviceRoutine fluid service to help prevent failures.
- Repair or replacementAn honest answer on which makes sense for your car.
Why we won't guess over the phone
A transmission can't be diagnosed by description. The same symptom can be a fluid issue, a sensor, a worn motor mount or the transmission itself. Bring the car in and you'll get an accurate answer and an accurate estimate.

Good questions
Transmissions: what people ask us.
Can you tell me what's wrong over the phone?
Not reliably. A Volvo specialist needs to check the car in person to give you a real answer.
Should I keep driving it?
As little as possible. Get it diagnosed as soon as you notice a problem so it doesn't cost more later.
My Volvo clunks when I put it in gear. Is that the transmission?
Maybe not. Worn motor mounts are common on Volvos and cause the same clunk. We check them as part of the diagnosis.
